4 Hot Careers for ENTJs

Clinically Reviewed by Steven Melendy, PsyD. on January 27, 2011

Logical and efficient ENTJs pride themselves on their top-notch organizational skills. ENTJs place a high value on hard work and accomplishment and are one of the most career-driven of the Myers-Briggs types. They perform excellently in positions of leadership. Hot careers for ENTJs are those that utilize their capacity to see where processes in a system or situation can be improved, then develop long-range plans to improve those processes.

Urban and Regional Planner

If you're an ENTJ who is gifted in spatial reasoning and visualization, you might find great satisfaction as an urban and regional planner . By helping communities develop zoning regulations, you'll aid them in making the most efficient use of their land and resources. If you'd like to become an urban and regional planner, you'll want to earn a Bachelor's degree in a field like political science, economics or geography. Then you'll need to complete a Master's degree in urban and regional planning, geography or urban design. If you secure an internship, you'll gain valuable work experience. Most urban and regional planners are employed by local governments.

Stock Broker

A career as a stock broker would be an excellent path for an ENTJ who excels at financial planning. Stock brokers buy, sell or trade securities on behalf of individual investors and retail businesses and advise them on the most efficient ways to achieve their financial goals. To become a stock broker, you'll want to earn a Bachelor's degree in finance, economics or management. Stock brokers must be licensed. To get your license, you must pass the General Securities Representative Examination , also known as the Series 7 Examination. Brokerage firms often hire aspiring young stock brokers and provide on-the-job training to help them pass the exam.

Anesthesiologist

ENTJs who make good team players in high-pressure situations might find a career as an anesthesiologist to their liking. Anesthesiologists are specialized medical doctors who maintain the vital functions of patients who are undergoing surgery. To become an anesthesiologist, you should take courses in biology, chemistry and mathematics as part of your undergraduate program. After earning your Bachelor's degree, you'll take the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) to gain admission to medical school. After graduation, you'll spend four years in anesthesiology residency, during which you'll work toward receiving certification from either the American Society of Anesthesiologists or the American Board of Anesthesiology .

Computer Systems Analyst

If you're an ENTJ who enjoys maximizing the performance of systems, you might enjoy a career as a computer systems analyst. Computers and information technology are ubiquitous in all walks of life, from business to government to nonprofit organizations. Computer systems analysts help organizations get the most out of their technology. You'll need a Bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science or information technology. If you want to work in a scientific or technological environment, you'll want to take courses that pertain to your particular field of interest. If you want to work in a business environment, you might consider going for a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree.

These hot careers for ENTJs lend the Fieldmarshal ample opportunity to make use of his or her goal-driven, efficiency-oriented nature. ENTJs feel at home in jobs where they can use their long-range planning abilities to make a positive difference.
